Since the company’s first delivery in 1988, Platypus Outdoors Group has established a reputation as a company able to provide practical and effective solutions to the needs of the Australian Defence Force. The company focuses on providing solutions to meet customers’ needs that present excellent value and the ongoing and continuous development of the Services the company is able to provide to Customers. Platypus Outdoors Group identifies potential alliances with commercial and government organisations that have specific capabilities to advance the capacity of the company to serve its clients. Platypus Group Head Office is located at Hallam just 30 kms from the heart of Melbourne with easy freeway access. We employ over 30 people at our 928 Square metre site; we have warehousing and design capabilities in house. The facility houses our office for administration and design, show rooms, [Like BUNNINGS for SOLDIERS] warehousing, prototyping development staff and tactical nylon/ clothing manufacturing plant. Here our industrial design trained staff can animate, pattern, manufacture, repair, and service our technical load carrying and outdoor gear robust enough for use in all environments. We proudly manufacture the majority of products in Australia and also bring brand items in from the USA and the UK. We additionally utilize specialist Clothing Manufacturers in Melbourne to provide surge capability if required. Platypus Group is a licensed firearms dealer however we only deal with Government Agencies and Departments for these items.

We actively engage with the user to ensure our products meet their requirements. We constantly search the World for cutting edge materials and liaise with Defence, Law Enforcement units and also other manufacturers to deliver the best quality and design for the end user. Over the years we have had current and previously serving military staff contribute to our design from diverse fields such as Armour, Infantry, MPs, Transport, Artillery, Intelligence, RAAF and Police and Army Special Forces. We not only do the R and D but we see Projects and Products through to completion. Our priority is to work with Government organizations to bring our equipment to the people on the ground. At time additional personal equipment may be called for and we welcome military and law enforcement personnel to visit at consult with us on an individual basis. The platypus group ethos has always been to enjoy what we do not to make  a million bucks, our focus is on quality and functionality, so we put at least 10% of our turn over back into R and D to continually improve.
